Election of new Chairperson
Ideal for All - News
Helen Stephens - Ideal for All ChairpersonThe trustees of Ideal For All have elected Helen Stephens to be the new chairperson of Ideal For All.  Helen takes the chair from Roy Short who has served the board for the past 12 years.

Helen was introduced to the wheelchair following a car accident in 1999.  From a very active professional lifestyle to suddenly vegetating at home starring at walls was not the future she had hoped for.  While as a social worker she was used to supporting individuals to live a fulfilling life, the tragic accident left Helen at the receiving end of services, which often were frustratingly slow and fell short to meet her needs.  Helen wanted to regain her independence and a renewed purpose of life.  But the world around her was disabling her more than her limited physical ability and yet fully functioning intellectual faculties.

In 2000 Helen was introduced to Ideal For All and with that introduction her new journey began.  The destination of this journey was the ultimate independence, empowerment and a fulfilling life.  In December 2003 Helen was elected as a trustee of IFA and became the vice-chair in December 2005.  In December 2008 when Helen was elected as the new chairperson of Ideal For All, it was like seeing her dream come true.

At the Annual General Meeting in December 2008, when Helen’s appointment was announced, she commented at a private interview ‘if it wasn’t for Ideal for All she would either be still sitting at home or attending a day centre the most. IFA have supported and empowered me and now I’ve the privilege to pay back and support the charity’s work.  It is a fantastic local charity run by local disabled people and I would urge all disabled, elderly and disadvantaged people to join its free membership and engage themselves in a very rewarding cause’.

Helen can be contacted by leaving a message with Michelle at IFA on 0121 558 5555 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
