Celebrating the Achievements of People with Disabilities
Ideal for All - News
On 3rd December, Ideal for All, a local charity supporting independent living, celebrated International Day of People with Disabilities. Over one hundred and fifty people with disabilities and their carers attended this annual event to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities. This year’s event held at The Regis Conference and Banqueting Centre included superb performances from local performers.

The evening was opened by Andrea Pope-Smith, Director of Adult Services and Health at the council highlighted the importance of ensuring people with disabilities are empowered and able to live independent lives. She said:

‘International Day of People with Disabilities is all about celebrating the contribution of people with disabilities to the success of Sandwell. Words, Signs and Vibes, a youth drama group made up of deaf and hearing impaired people, are a great example of this local talent.’

Singer Simon Goff, Manveer’s String Quartet, Black Country comedian Marlene, Bhangra dancers and Janey Fletcher made up the rest of the evening’s entertainment. In addition an art exhibition at the council-funded event showcased the work of disabled artists in Sandwell. The event also hosted delegations from Austria, Germany and Poland who are partners with Ideal for All in a transnational learning project.
