The 'Drop in' Equipment Service is a service providing Sandwell residents with access to a limited range of equipment to improve and maintain independence from the Independent Living Centre. Who can use the service? The service is available to permanent residents of Sandwell. Assessments are open to people of any age, ethnicity and ability. The individual requiring the equipment must be present for the assessment. When is the service available? The service is a 'drop in' service, so appointments are not necessary. It is available from Monday to Friday, between 10.00am and 11.45am. Due to the nature of the service, if you arrive after 11.45am, or if there are a lot of people waiting when you arrive, it is possible that you will be asked to return on another day. The Officer is unable to see people after 12.00 noon. On rare occasions, the service may have to be temporarily suspended. What happens at the 'Drop in' Equipment Service?Upon arrival, people will be asked to sign in at reception and fill out a form containing some personal details. There may then be a short wait before you see an Officer. A short assessment allows you to explain any difficulties you are experiencing. The Duty Officer will then be able to establish possible solutions. Can I have a home visit? The 'Drop in' Equipment Service does not offer home visits. If a home visit is required, the appropriate department of Adult Services & Health should be contacted. They are based at the Aids & Adaptation Service, Unit 22, Crystal Drive, Smethwick. They can be contacted on 0121 569 3666. What equipment can be issued? The 'Drop in' Equipment Service only provides basic equipment to help people maintain their independence at home. This equipment is only provided once it has been demonstrated by the Duty Officer and the Officer is happy that you can use it safely and independently. Available equipment includes:
The individual requiring the equipment must be present at the assessment. Who does the equipment belong to?The equipment will remain on loan to the individual for as long as it is required. Where do I return the equipment to?Joint Equipment Stores, |
