Introduction to Service
The Occupational Therapy Service provides information and advice to anyone aiming to maintain or increase independence in their daily routine, leisure or work related activities. The level of involvement varies with each individual; from simple advice to an assessment with the demonstration of equipment, referrals to other services, or a series of rehabilitation sessions and follow-up.
Advice and support is offered to individuals experiencing difficulties related to age, or disability, to relatives, friends, or other medical professionals, students, voluntary and statutory organisations.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy (O.T.) assists individuals improve their quality of life by enabling them to be as independent as possible; this is primarily achieved by focusing on everyday activities.
It may involve teaching new ways of managing personal care and home skills: washing and dressing, cooking and shopping. It may involve enabling people to regain their social life and feel at ease in social settings, taking up new hobbies and leisure activities, or overcoming difficulties in current social activities and also in assisting people return to work.
Where is the service based?
Assessments take place in the fully equipped demonstration house, within the Independent Living Centre (ILC). Ideal for All offers O.T. Assessment to anyone, regardless of reason. Assessments are open to people of any age, ethnicity and ability.
